Last night I watched the documentary The Librarians on YouTube. I thought it was well done. It certainly has an opinion. But it doesn't prevent the opposing view from being heard. Here's the video if you want to judge for yourself.
The people calling for these book bans look so scared and angry. It's sad and it makes me sad. They seem threatened, like the whole world is against them. Then they see these books that feel harmful. To them, it probably looks like attacks on children—attacks on the most vulnerable among us. They just want to protect them. It's like they can't see past their pain and anger to realize that they might be causing harm. Nobody that feels safe tries to ban books.
